“Sometimes the best strategy in life is to not take things too seriously, let your hair down and just do what feels good, and this was exactly the approach we took when making this track”
Aussie-born producer Jafunk, singer Dana Williams and rapper Mike Nasa bless us with a soulful groove as we get ready to welcome the sunshine and warmth. In Weekend Love, the artists spread their carefree mantra as they tell the story of a free, fun, and casual encounter.
This mantra is typical of Jafunk’s music as well as one the producer has shown to go by himself. Following the success of his remix of Set Mo’s ‘Chasing Forever’ in 2019, Jafunk scattered his modern funk around as he toured Australia and Europe, until finally deciding to settle in Berlin to pursue his music career full-time.
By blending grooving bass lines, bouncy drums, funky guitars and lush analog synths, Jafunk produces a sound characteristic of the 70s and 80s disco and funk era, all the while delivering the modern electronic punch we’ve all been compelled to recognise as Jafunk’s trademark. Committed to the funk, Mike Nasa acts as the storyteller as he bounces on and off the beat with his rhymes, and Dana Williams reels us deeper into the groove with her soulful hooks and soothing vocals.
